Christian Service Commission


  The Christian Service Commission strives to involve the parish in projects for hunger, housing, racial discrimination, homelessness, respect life issues, legislation on social justice.
 
 
 

Communion for the Homebound: Holy Communion is brought to those who are sick or unable to come to church on a regular basis.

Food/Fuel for Life: The first weekend of each month, parishioners donate nonperishable food and cash at the Offertory Procession.  It is then delivered to parishes or agencies that serve the poor.

Holy Name Society: These men of the parish are committed to being disciples of the Lord.  Their work has involved them in various projects in the parish, as well as sponsoring Lenten Fish Fries.  Membership is open to the men of the parish, 18 years of ages and older.  Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 8:15 p.m., in the cafeteria.

Hospital Visitation: The priests of the parish and the parish nurse are interested in visiting members of the parish when they are hospitalized.

Ladies Workshop: The Sanctuary Society sponsors a Workshop that meets every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the rectory.  These ladies work on many craft projects for our parish picnic.

Legion of Mary: The Legion is comprised of men and woman of the parish, who are committed to the evangelization of themselves and others.  The Legion visits homes in our parish encouraging people to pray the Legion of Mary prayers.  They also visit those who have lapsed from the practice of the faith.

Ministry to the Homeless: Parishioners provide a monthly meal on the 10th of each month at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish.  Cakes for the homeless are delivered monthly to St. Vincent DePaul Parish.

St. Vincent De Paul Society: An international organization that is parish-based.  The Vincentians are committed to the service of the poor and needy.  They visit the poor in teams to be of whatever help they can be.  In addition to serving the poor in our parish they assist three other conferences.  The Society meets weekly to consider requests for help.  Absolute confidentiality is maintained, as well as respect for the person requesting their help.

Quilters: Since 1935 these talented women have created lovely quilts for raffles.  They have delighted many lucky winners, and they sew up a steady source of parish income.  They meet every Monday evening at 6:30 and Wednesday following the 8:00 Mass. 

Parish Helpers: The purpose of the Parish Helpers is to serve as Jesus did by helping those in need, bringing joy and comfort to others, and enriching our sense of parish family.  Most of the services rendered by this group are done on a voluntary, temporary or emergency basis.
